Makerspace: ‘’St. Patrick’s Day handcrafts ‘’


On March 5th, the 9th level of Small wonders program   commemorated the St Patrick’s Day. They made handicrafts with water paint, paper of color and crazy eyes: the idea was to make a small elf with those materials. The teacher Gioconda Herrera and her assistant also made the handcrafts in accompany of American Corner Assistant and children.



American Corner promotes the American Culture and respect the for environment using recyclable materials.

American English Webinar 2.4: ’’ Cross-Cultural Communication Strategies’’.

 


On March 2nd, 15 American Corner users attended the fourth session of Webinar series 2 with the topic ‘’Cross-Cultural Communication Strategies’’. Because the Culture matters, nowadays the education field has included topics and subjects in relationship with the culture, especially when in a constant interaction between people from different countries, lifestyles and manners. The English Language is one of the first spoken on earth as second language that is one of the reason which English teachers must remember planning their classes about culture.
The presenter Melissa Mendelson explained us about how bridging cultures and that way she gave the elements of Culture and Communication:
  •      Nonverbal communication (types & functions)
  •    Verbal communication (vocalic, written and oral)
  •      Identity (Personalities, goals, and interests, Religious beliefs, Social class and status (income, education, family, Language, Gender, Social roles, Ethnicity).
  •    Values
  •   Social norms


The American Corner users reached the following goals during this webinar series:
   Recognized how cultural and linguistic differences affect communication
 They Discussed the importance of preparing learners to communicate across cultures successfully
  An shared activities that raise cultural and linguistic awareness among English Language Learners
