Webinar16 - Spoken grammar and its role in the English Language Classroom´´

Nine members of American Corner
Nicaragua participated for this webinar. In this occasion we touched a very useful topic ´´Spoken grammar and its role in the English Language Classroom´´, this big subject included different content to use it when we talk,  e.g:

1. Ellipsis: We use it , when we omit some words in a sentence, but this
sentence doesn´t lose its meaning e.g: (Do you) wanna dance ?
2. Heads: This allows introducing the topic firstly and giving speakers and
listeners ´´thinking time´ ´in real time. The key word that determines the
nature of phrase (in contrast to any modifiers or determiners).
3. Fillers: An apparently meaningless word, phrase or sound that marks a pause or hesitation in speech. Word that give time to think.
4. Tail: In linguistic, a word or phrase at the end of a clause by which a
speaker or (less commonly) a writer clarifies, strengthens , extends or
emphasizes a topic that was previously introduced . Contrast with header, the tail can also reinforce and add emphasis to an already explicit referent.
5. Backchannels: words that someone else is saying.
6. Phrasal chunks : We use chunks to check and show
understanding between speaker and listener.
